Culemborg, moving in the fortified town on the Lek
Culemborg is a true fortified town on the Lek, with one of the best preserved historic centres in the Rivierenland area. Around the Markt, the Grote Kerk and the medieval Binnenpoort stand stately townhouses and old merchants’ premises along narrow streets. It is precisely those narrow streets, the cobbles and the often steep staircases that turn a move in the old centre into precision work. Here we use a more compact van and, where needed, bring in a hoist lift, so that a cupboard or sofa can also be brought up through the window. The low-traffic core also requires a permit to drive in, and several streets have permit-holder parking, with a maximum of two permits per household.
Outside the centre, Culemborg looks quite different. On the west side, the town has grown considerably in recent years with the new-build district of Parijsch, a spacious, water-rich neighbourhood where building is still in full swing. In the distinctive eco-district of EVA-Lanxmeer and in areas such as Terweijde and Goilberdingen there are larger homes with wide streets, where the removal van can usually park right outside the door.
